Black Eagle -
16 Factory Road, Hockley, Birmingham B18 5JU
Built circa 1850 this Victorian pub was owned and operated by publican George Ward who produced a steady flow of house beers on site. The pub was acquired in the later part of the 1800s Benjamin Kelsey Ltd; a brewery founded in 1859 and based at Ashted Row in Duddeston.
The Black Eagle was purchased out of obscurity in the late 80s as an independently operated free house, operating on this basis until 2017 when custodian/owner Tony left the licensed trade. During his tenure the pub was award Birmingham CAMRA Pub of the Year status in 2010 and regularly runs well recieved beer festivals at intervals through out the year.
The pub consists of two small bars which retain many original features including Minton tiles on the bar, and a larger restaurant serving home cooked meals with daily specials.
